Hiya new to this site.
Some years ago we had builders in to put an extention on the house and we encorporated what was the old v. small kitchen into the living/dining room, however the floor in the old kitchen is slightly higher, it has a honey come wall underneath the floor where the original wall was. We would now like to have the floor levelled. Can this be done by planing the higher joists to slope to the lower ones, its only approx 1 1/2cm difference and around 2.5m in length. however the joists donot run in that direction, they run across the floor.

They can be planed or cut down but if you can get to the lower side joists it might be easier to bolt joists to the side of them to raise them a little. See our project on levelling floor joists to get some idea of how this is done.

hiya , you could over board the existing floor in the living / dining room with 15mm chipboard if this does not effect any other areas . This will bring you up same level as the old kitchen. If you do consider doing this,fix the chiboard down with 30mm screws or nails these should not go through the existing boards and hit any existing pipes or cables which may be below.
