Radiator cover

by wellington » Thu May 31, 2007 3:24 pm

Hello, I as thinking of putting a radiator cover over my only radiator on the landing but have heard they can block the heat. Does anyone have any experience of installing them and did they find it made the room colder. I aslo wanted to ask what finish I should paint them with - is it gloss to match the skirting boards and doors or satin for a softer finish

They don't block heat they send it into the middle of the room where its required instead of allowing it to fly straight up the wall where it isn't. If the box is MDF, as most of them are, you need to prime it properly first with MDF primer. See our project on painting MDF. When primed you can paint it with what you like.
