roof vents

by Newbee » Thu Oct 29, 2009 9:02 am

Hi there, I have a 2 bed end terraced house, I'm having slate roof vents installed 6 in all, three at a low level three at a high level, there are 3 at a low level already also the guttering bolts are being replaced as they are leaking, I've been givena quote of £360, I thought it was a hommer (cash job) butr the message left on my answering machine was 'his boss gave him a quote of' anyway does anyone think thats a fair price?

Thanks in advance

It is very important that you get a quotation in writing, listing exactly what will be done for the money.
It is quite common for builders to fail to do exactly what you thought you had agreed and paid for. They will do less than agreed and give some seemingly plausible reason for not doing it and they will keep your money.
You must also have a starting date and a declaration that "time is of the essence." Otherwise the job may never be finished.
It is a good idea to obtain at least three itemized quotes, to get some idea of the cost of the work.
Look in B&Q to check out the cost of the items.
