Hi, I have a 4 year old house and decided to tile the bathroom floor. I called a plumber out and when he came he had a look at my basin. He told me it had been fit illegally because it didnt have any isolating valves on the pipes to the taps. I phoned Wimpey up who built the house, they said it was good practice to fit isolating valves to the taps, but they didnt have to. Who is telling the truth.....

My understanding is that Water Regulations are legally binding but they use phrases like "should be fitted" and "where practically possible". I dont know the exact wording for isolation valves but if the Regs do not state "must be fitted regardless" they will be open to interpretation. Im sure someone will have a copy of the Regs and let you know.

I believe it's good practice - not compulsory.
