Laying New Flooring in Loft Conversion Help, advice, information, answers and tips on all types of flooring from laminate and carpet to timber and vinyl

Hi,
Complete novice here and wanted to know your opinions on the best flooring to use in our new loft conversion upstairs. At the moment we have basic chipboard which is not good and flexing badly with loads of creaks. We were looking at t&g chipboard but wanted to best option and lowest cost which dont normally go together! Any ideas anyone?

You really need to find out why the floor is "flexing badly with loads of creaks". Try screwing down the floor and check on the size and span of joists used.

Thanks so much for the reply. The main problem is that the floorboards arent good and are not butted together - a few have holes around the edges (these are the really old floorboards from before we converted). We definately need to replace but not quite sure where to start with materials - we hear good and bad things about t&g. Any advice would be really appreciated.

I would suggest you stick with the old floorboards. Lift them, turn them over and refix moving them closer as you go.
