Stubborn wall - help!

by tonyade » Thu Jul 22, 2010 4:49 pm

Hello chaps.

Just trying to drill a hole above my front door. Using a standard drill with masonry drill bit. Can only seem to make a hole measuring a couple of inches. Pretty sure there's no metal where I'm drilling.

Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Wrong drill bit? Coming up against concrete? (it's a 1950s maisonette, brick and concrete)?

Have attached some pics, for what it's worth.

And help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

tonyade,
You're hitting a concrete lintol which will have reinforcing bar(s) in it. Use a better drill and bit or make the hole further away from the lintol.
