hi, hoping someone can help, i've plastered the front of the fireplace but now need to do the inside. Its a small opening, current rendered over brick but i intend putting a log burner into the fireplace. I wondered if anyone can tell me what i need to put inside the fireplace so a log burner can be installed. i assume normal plaster would crack due to heat, someone mentioned ready mix fire cement? Any ideas please? ultimately i want to paint the inside of the fireplace.

The only solution I have found to be successful is to tile the fireplace recess.

I'm looking to do the same thing as Matt. Is it OK to use standard tile adhesive?

I used an ordinary waterproof tile adhesive and the tiles have stayed fixed over two seasons of using the fire. Suggest you use floor tiles not wall tiles.

fire cement would hold up, not sure if the paint would though?
