We recently purchase the ground floor in a Victorian Terrace (Brick walls).
We had a survey done and that highlighted that damp was an issue, so we had a specialist damp report done and that gave us a quote for fixing the damp problem - so we negotiated on the purchase price and got the damp proofing work down before we moved in. I believe the damp was rising damp. The floor is concrete, with wooden boards directly on top.
The work that was down was quite extensive in both bedrooms, the lounge and the hallway.
In the main bedroom, a large portion of the walls were redone - the only exception really being a portion under the bay window.
The thing is, when we run a dehumidifer in the main bedroom now we are taking out approx 1/2 to 1 litre of water a day still, and if we do not run the dehumidifer for a couple of days the portion of wall under the window (that was not 'damp proofed') starts to show signs of mildew and is damp to touch. Also any clothes or papers on that side of the room start to feel damp to touch.
The windows are modern (less than 10 years old) and i dont think they are the source of the moisture (though I could be wrong).
Any suggestions on what the problem could be? (please let me know if you require more details)
Does this sound right? Does this sound like the damp proofing hasnt worked - or rather the survey missed a section of wall that should have been? Have we been riped off by the people who did the damp survey and the damp proofing (thats a bit how it feels a the moment - though i may just be jumping to conclusions!).
Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated
