there are many grab adhesives on the market - grip fill, no more nails, sikaflex and many others. the are usually dispensed via a tube in an extruder gun (aka silicone gun to some people).
usually used for dado rails, skirtings etc and take around 24 hours to fully cure.
impact, or contact adhesive is applied in very thin coats to both surfaces to be bonded, allowed to dry and then the two surfaces pressed together. the bond is instant (hence contact adhesive) and can't be undone. whilst you do highlight the problem with using contact adhesive it is the right one to use in your case.
grab adhesive is usually applied a bit thicker and is difficult to get an all over coverage in your application. this may lead to loose bits which may get chipped off. best to take your time with the contact adhesive.
