I need to remove textured plaster over RSJ

by rolipoli » Wed Jul 06, 2011 12:50 pm

I have just moved into a house where the previous owner has plastered and painted brown an RSJ/H beam to look like an old wooden beam (although it really doesn't! ).

I have had a look under the paint and it looks like plaster. Could I simply sand the plaster down to create a smooth surface or would I need to chip it all away and start again?

thanks in advance!

You could try x-tex - look at the removing the artex projects page. Would not advise sanding as it could contain asbestos if its pre 1985

Thanks for the response, the artex postings have put me off trying to 'make good'. Perhaps I'll rebox over it instead!
