Leaks from neck of drinking water tap

by DIYDAVE09 » Sat Jul 23, 2011 9:55 pm

I have a pair of ‘TAPMATE’ Galaxy Lever Kitchen High Neck Taps (manufactured by the Masco Plumbing Group which I understand includes Bristan). There is a leak from the neck on one of the taps when the lever is in an open position. The leak comes from 2 areas i.e. from the ‘gap’ in the neck immediately below the lever and also, a little further down, from the ‘gap’ in the neck immediately above the spout. (There is no apparent problem with the spout itself). The space between these 2 areas appears to be taken up by some sort of ‘metal cover’ or ‘metal shroud’ over the internal tap mechanism. I have so far been able to remove the lever but have not been able to remove the ‘metal shroud’ in order to take a look at the internal tap mechanism. I wonder whether you can please suggest what may be the cause of the leaks and also, in particular, suggest how I can remove the metal shroud that I have referred to? As far as I am aware at this stage, the tap operates with a ceramic disc mechanism. Thanks,
David C
