Varnish over Paint

Hi there,
I would like to know if its possible to varnish over paint

The project: to sign write a piece of marine ply and to varnish it.
so must stand up to weather!

so what paint could I use
Any ideas for the project welcome!

I'm not sure if varnish can be used over paint but yes, you can surely varnish the piece of ply. So that it stands up to any kind of weather.You would make it increase it's life that way.

It should be fine, I marbled a sub box for my car, Black base, glazed then feathered blue lines in gloss with white outline, then varnished.
