Two weeks ago our outside drain/gully was blocked and we unblocked it with hot water and vigorous plunging with a mop. The water has not risen to the top of the gully again and appears all to be draining away easily. However, to one side of the drain at surface level approx 4 ft x 2ft against the house, our red cobbles are all soaking wet and have never dried out. Is it possible that our plunging has broken a seal and the water is leaking out underground and although we guess its about 2ft underground - that it is showing on the surface? If you agree this is what it could be - is the only solution to dig it all up and search for the leak - or could it be anything else? (the gully is definitely not filling up with water so it is not an overflow on the surface)
