All reputable tradesmen will be more than willing to offer a receipt if asked for work done. It is proof you have had the work done, who did it a, when, and crucially that you have paid for it.

If a tradesman is reluctant to give an invoice, this suggests he doesn't want proof of his earnings or is trying to avoid offering any guarantee.

Whilst it is not unusual for minor works to be completed without any paperwork, if you are paying by cash or want to protect your guarantee then always insist on a receipt.
