Used a matt emulsion instead of undercoat

by jopugh » Thu Jan 26, 2012 2:21 pm

Help! In my ignorance, I have used a matt emulsion instead of an exterior undercoat on my large wooden sandpit lid.

I did prime the bare the wood first, then gave it two coats of matt emulsion, and have finished with two coats of exterior wood paint.

Can I expect that the whole lot will peel off in a matter of weeks, months or years? The lid is still in the shed and hasn't been exposed to the elements yet. Should I strip the whole lot off and start again?

Not ideal however it should suffice. There are not many dissimilarities from acrylic undercoat/primer and mat emulsion so you should be okay but it won't last forever.
