Retaining all

by DJ_WARP » Sun Mar 11, 2012 8:06 pm

I think i am in the right area.

At the back of our garden is a large hill... with a railway line at the bottom.

The hill starts inside our boundry, levels off on the boundry theen continues down after.

Over the years the ground is falling and the hill has creeped further into the garden.

I am looking into building a retaining wall on the boundry so that we have got our full garden. but am not sure what use. I would be building a wall and fenceline ontop of it.

It would need to be at least two foot tall and about 10 metres across. What is that best desgin/ material for the job.

Pleas help.

this could be built from RC concrete, mass concrete, masonry, timber, or stone filled gabions. It may need to be designed by an engineer, its only little so hopefully not.

you mentioned a railyway line, depending on its position in relation to the wall you may need to do this properly and network rail may need to be involved. ask the local building control officer for their advice on how to proceed.
