Soundproofing a Window Within the Alcove Space

by Soundenquirer » Thu May 08, 2014 12:32 pm

I have attempted to soundproof the bedroom window to cut out outside traffic noise by plugging a piece of acoustic foam into the alcove. However, it is not working particularly well.

You need to install secondary glazing. The perfect distance is 12 inches from the inside of the existing piece of glass, but 4" and 8" inches will work almost as well. Just make sure the new glass is an airtight fit, otherwise you will have water vapour finding its way inside the gap and the outer glass will mist up on cold nights.
