How to Improve Support for Retained Chimney Stack?

by Andybambi » Tue Jun 03, 2014 11:24 am

Hello,

I've had a survey carried out on a house I'm buying and it states 'improved support required for retained chimney stack in roof space above middle bedroom'.

Can someone advise how this can be achieved?

Thanks

you will need to install a steel beam from one wall to another and fit smaller beams off that, into the gable brickwork to support the stack,Or fit what they call gallow brackets its really not a diy project and the beam needs to be calculated to support the weight, a structural engineer can do that for you.

Failing that, just remove the rest of the chimney.
