Hole Under Bathroom Sink Leaking - What Does This Hole do? All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

There is a hole on the right-hand underside of my bathroom sink that is leaking. The hole is part of the design and seems to have been leaking for some time but tends to be worse when the sink has been full of water as opposed to simply running the tap.

My questions are, does anyone know what this hole is for; does anyone have any idea how/why it is leaking; and can it be fixed or is a new sink in order?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming that's the back corner of the underside, it looks like either a moulding hole that has no use other than during the manufacturing process, or possibly an alternative fixing hole for a bracket. The only channel that water should run through in a basin is the overflow hole, which runs into the waste section. It sounds like water is escaping through a crack in the glaze, which isn't repairable. Sorry!
