The back of my victorian terraced house has been pebbledashed on the top half and sprayed with a render of some kind and painted on the bottom half. I have since replaced the old victorian down pipes and also had work done to the kitchen and bathroom meaning that pipes have been re-routed leaving the outside looking a bit of a mess. Also there are adjoining garden walls that are also coated but bits have broken off.

I do have a bit of a damp problem on one wall of the kitchen (outer) and have read the advice re this so want to sort it at the same time.

I guess the walls have been treated this way as some of the bricks would have blown and all needed re-mortaring. I don't like to think what the wall's like underneath.

My question is whether the whole wall could be resprayed over the top of the existing finish in a decent colour and does the existing finish need to be removed first? Are there any issues I need to consider with doing this? Could you outline the process to help me make sure I ask the builder to do it the right way.

I have had bad experiences with builders so want to know the basics to help me when appointing one. What would be a reasonable ball park price? I shall probably get the front and gable end walls re-mortared at the same time.

hi i do wall coating on houses. that are good for damp problems my advice to u is that u can go over the old coating but u must first make sure that u take off the old stuff first by checking with a wire brush and scraping the lose off. or if there is a lot of the side there is a electric tool called a needle gun which would help
