Nailing Solid Oak Flooring to 18mm Plyboard Securly

by water-works » Tue Oct 27, 2015 6:56 pm

I have reclaimed solid oak flooring to fit in a very small area 2 m x 4 m, it will be lying on 18 mm ply, and underlay foam.

Do I have to hire a flooring nailer, or is there another way to nail it low tech, by hand ?

You can use a nail gun if you are careful, however I am falling out of favour with secret nailing solid floors to plywood or chipboard, as they can squeak.
You can buy small headed screws now that allow you to screw tongue and groove flooring down through the tongues, this may be a far better solution for your small area as the cost will be minimal.
The other alternative is to glue the boards down with flooring adhesive, no squeaks ever! No nailer required either.
