I'm considering a loft conversion and have engaged an engineer to look at aspects. There are the usual things to consider - but the engineer is making quite a fuss about the unknown facts about the foundations of the internal walls which will take some of the extra loading.
The disruption of making a couple of test pits to check the foundations is almost enough to make me give up on the whole project. Would a local authority insist on this?? Surely this problem must exist with all conversions. Is there a clever way of checking foundation depth and subsoil with using an auger through the floor - or something similar??
