Can a Strong Mortar Mix Cause Brick Damage?

by mutoo » Sat Dec 10, 2016 12:52 pm

My house was built around 1930, bricks are engineering type. Had some repointing done a few years back on a small section of wall. Is it possible a strong mortar mix can damage bricks whereby they become pitted?

Thanks

yes, mortar is used to hold the bricks apart, not keep them together, so mortar needs to be weaker than the brick to allow for expansion
