Hi all,
I am looking to rebuild a fireplace hearth and was hoping for some suggestions.
See attached for a couple of images.
We will eventually have a wood burner so would like the base to be well built to regs.
I was thinking that I would break up the remaining loose rubble that is there and tamp down. I was then going to fill up to floorboard level with a 4:1 sand and cement mix. I guess a fairly dry mix would be suitable?
From this point I was planning to create a temporary timber frame to cast the raised hearth ready for tiling. Using the same ratio sand and cement mix.
I think to get the desired width for the hearth I will have to cast the raised hearth over the floorboards by a few inches. I was planing to fix down a cement based board in these areas before laying the cement mix.
Do you think this process would be suitable? It would be great to hear any advice or thoughts!
Thanks!
