EPS Beads in Floor Void?

by Vegas » Sat Oct 12, 2019 10:45 am

After some building work I have a stack of EPS beads left over. I was thinking of using them to fill the underfloor void in our hall. We live in a 1930s terraced house (normal 3 upstairs rooms, downstairs kitchen & 2 reception room layout) and when it was refurbished we filled the rest of the floor with concrete, but not the hall or old kitchen area (which is now a cloakroom / utility room). We do have draughts downstairs and I was thinking of using the EPS beads to fill the floor void. Its the original 1930 floor with engineered oak.

The void is empty save for water & gas pipes. The pipes driving the heating come into the manifold in the void for part of the layout. The crawl space is 30-50cm.

Any thoughts on how sensible it would be to fill the void with EPS beads?
