I'm in the unfortunate position of having to clean up some pretty gnarly messes from some previous shoddy engineered hardwood flooring work, and was hoping I could get some advice as I'm a relative unseasoned DIYer!
Issue 1: at the door frame transition from engineered wood to carpet, the wood appears to have been laid right up to the previous metal carpet to carpet threshold. Some part of the metal threshold actually extends underneath the wood. It is this kind of threshold https://www.screwfix.com/p/gripperrods- ... 60mm/944gp
I want to fit a proper wood to carpet threshold, but I cannot pry this metal one up to replace, as it extends partially under the wood, and will therefore pull the wood out. Is there a quick and dirty way I could stick a riser type threshold on top of this? The only other possibility I could see is to saw the wood back slightly from the top so that I can remove the existing threshold, what would be the best tool for this on order not to split up the wood too badly?
Issue 2: I have a stair edge that has wood flooring running right up to the edge, and then a 2.5 inch drop to a carpet stair. I cannot find stair edging anywhere that has a drop this deep, I'm pretty sure something custom will have to be made. Any ideas on what the easiest way to do this might be?
