New Ceiling Light Fixture - Confirming Wire Locations

by poosemon » Sat Nov 02, 2019 4:03 pm

Quick ceiling light wiring question. 1st point to make is I have made the rookie error of dismantling everything before fitting as thought it would be a like for like, however I do see to have the arrangement mentioned in a lot of postings.

However, I can’t seem to quite find an answer of how to wire into my particular light fitting (B & Q so assume it must be a fairly common standard?)

Existing Wiring;
2x Red
2x Black (of which one has a red sleeve on so assume it is the switched one)
2x Yellow and Green.

New Light Fitting:
3 Terminals only;
L – Manual states Red (or brown)
Earth – Green/Yellow
N – Blue and Black

Any advice would be gratefully received.

I take you are replacing a pendant locket drop.

The 2 reds will have to put in a chock block as this is the loop to the next light.

The black with red sleeve is the switch wire, this goes to L.

The black goes to N.

The earths green & yellow go to E.

You need extra terminal block or wago connectors for the two reds.
Your assumption regarding the black with the red sleeve is correct.
