Hi, just looking for some advice on some paving I had installed a year ago.

When we moved into our new house, standing paving was laid by the house builder. This has always looked ‘cream’ from the outset. We then wanted to extend this paving and were told by a contractor that they were standard BS paving and were ‘grey’ not cream. Aside from the fact that the new slabs are a completely different colour, the new slabs had very dark marks all over and we were told they just need to ‘weather’.

12 months later, they are getting lighter (still a way different colour than existing slabs) but the ‘marks’ are still all over the place. Just wondering what these marks are, how long we can expect to put up with them, and if there’s anything we can do to speed up the process.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Your pictures show two different colours of slabs - natural concrete and buff.
If you are referring to the shading on the concrete ones this is part of the manufacturing process and is permanent.

That’s annoying as we were told the existing ‘buff’ slabs were in fact ‘natural / grey’ hence why there is two different types!

Regarding the staining, I’m slightly confused as some of the slabs had staining to begin with but have now completely cleared. Where staining is still present, this has certainly become a lot lighter so had assumed it would disappear at some point, but is taking so long. I’ve included a pic of when they were first laid to show how dark the staining was.
