Hello, all, this is my first post. My husband and I found the most beautiful long straight branch that we want to make a stairway railing from. We have cleaned it, treated for woodwork and varnished (three coats). It's been hanging around now for maybe two years, because neither of us wants to drill holes in it, it is just so perfect. Is there any way to make a staircase rail without drilling holes into the wood? (But that looks nice, obviously. )

No expert in these things at all but if it is fairly uniform and you don't want to put any holes in it at all then you could use something like the ring mounts that people use for rope handrails but the first and last one however would need to be capped to hold the branch in it if you dont want any holes at all. Alternatively get the type with gromit screws which will hold it in place and only dent the branch.

As a non-expert, I am not aware of any standards you may or may not have to meet
