Hardboard over parquet to create level surface for vinyl? Help, advice, information, answers and tips on all types of flooring from laminate and carpet to timber and vinyl

I have a small area (approx 3000mm x 1100mm of parquet floor that I want to lay vinyl sheeting over. The parquet is a little uneven (a few of the fingers are loose and slightly raised), is 3mm hardboard likely to do the job of levelling? It is not a wet area but is high traffic.
