Liability for damage caused to laminate flooring

by DBG76 » Mon Jul 27, 2020 9:00 pm

You

I have fitted a new bathroom for my customer. There was a 50mm waste pipe fitted to the soil stack, the customers ensuite and bathroom being replaced discharges into this pipe. I didnt want to disturb the ensuite pipework so cut the pipe where the bathroom being replaced joined and replaced the pipework from there. The 50mm pipework had been installed incorrectly. Instead of using the correct fitting in the boss, whoever installed it glued it in with silicone. I tested the pipework and it was fine, however once I'd fitted the new floor and new bath it developed a leak and has ruined the laminate floor in the room below. I have rectified the problem but the customer wants the downstairs floor replaced. Am I liable if the pipe in question wasnt fitted by me?

Hi dgb76
Suggest you refer it to your public liability insurer and let them argue it out with the customers house insurance company.
