Boarding for lining fireplace for wood burning stove

by djrfleece » Mon Aug 24, 2020 12:40 pm

Hi, I'm after advice about the best boarding to line a brick fireplace in readiness for the installation of a wood burning stove.

We're getting a professional into install the actual stove and I'm preparing the fireplace. The people who we're getting the woodburner from have recommended Fermacell, but while that's 'fire resistant' I'm not sure if that meets the necessary requirements in terms of being fireproof. In which case is there any recommendations for alternatives. Ideally I'd want something which I can paint directly onto like Fermacell.

Also, what's the best way to secure the board, I've been reading around and some people say just adhesive will work while others recommend the use of mechanical fixings as well. In which case, is it best to use wood screws into metal plugs or expandable anchor type screws. Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.
