What tools for changing kitchen tap cartridge and tightning tap to sink

by geojay » Tue Sep 08, 2020 11:50 am

I need to replace the cartridges on a kitchen tap and then tighten it to the sink.

The first problem I have is with removing the cartridges; the 15mm nut that I need to undo is below the level of the surrounding tap so I can't use a flat spanner. The splined shaft is too long to get a socket over it and a box spanner just spins. What tool should I be using? It feels like I need something similar to a spark plug socket i.e. long enough to fit over the splined shaft.

The other issue I have is with tightening the 11mm nut that secures the tap to the sink. The sink is too deep for the box spanners I have to clear the bottom of the sink, meaning that I can't rotate the Tommy bar. I can't find longer box spanners for sale and I think the pipe tails are too close to the bolt to use a basin wrench. Again, what tool should I be using here?

I'd be grateful for suggestions on either of these issues!

Thanks in anticipation...

Hi geojay
In both cases long sockets will do the job.
