Changing Old Jammed Light Switch for New Light Switch

by alazam » Mon Oct 26, 2020 3:30 pm

I have a 2 gang light switch and one of the switches is jammed. The switch works 2 sets of lights in the lounge. The old switch has L1 and L2 terminals at the top and bottom and there are 3 red wires connected (image attached). There is no COM terminal. The new switch has L1, L2 and COM terminals. Please advise on how to make the connection? Kind Regards, Al.

Some switches are marked L1,L2 & L3 others are marked COM, L1 & L2. So transposing, Com = L1 on the other switch, L1 = L2 & L2 = L3.

The wire you don't want to mix up is the one that went to L2 in the old switch. Just assume L1 is common, L2 is L1 and ignore L3 altogether.

Good luck
