Hinged garage door fitting and clearance

by leeweedon » Tue Nov 03, 2020 9:29 am

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but couldn't decide if this was garage, doors or carpentry... maybe a bit of all three

I'm planning on replacing my up and over garage door with two side hinged wooden doors.

As part of this i'll be replacing all the front woodwork to suit the door.

My question is:

What opening size / door size ratio is recommended? i.e How much gap should I leave and the top bottom left and right.

If my doors are 2200 x 2000 total (so 2 x 1100 x 2000) I would expect the opening to be between 2210 - 2230 x 2010 - 2030.... leaving a 1 - 3 cm clearance

Thanks for you help in advance
