Cleaning Sludge from Radiators Without Making Mess

by diyshaun » Tue Nov 03, 2020 11:48 am

Is there a way to clean out radiator sludge without loads of mess?

I bought a couple of old cast iron rads and dragged them upstairs before realising they had sludge in them.

The room isn’t decorated and has old wooden floors so it isn’t the end of the world if there’s a bit of mess.

Is there a clever way to do this? Could I just plumb them in and add some system cleaner before flushing it through?

Hi diyshaun
Assuming the roads have two bottom tappings you could connect a mains fed hose to one side and hose to waste on the other, then run water through until it becomes reasonably clear.
