Altering Existing UPVC Windows (Change from 2 panes to 1 pane)

by shaggymat » Sun Nov 22, 2020 11:55 am

Hello,

We have two windows to the rear of our house that look out onto our garden. They are UPVC and made up of two panes of glass, one over the other. There is a large plastic beam that runs across the window at eye height separating the two. We want the plastic beam gone!

Is it possible to alter the window, replacing the two panes with one larger pane?

Or, would we need to replace the whole window?

We are essentially looking for a simple solution to creating an uninterrupted view out of our windows.

And help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

G

Hi shaggymat
If there is a main outer frame and you have inner frames holding the glass then you may be able to order a new one piece frame to fit in the outer frame. It’s probably cheaper and simpler to just fit a new window complete, except you will need BR approval.
