My bathroom door has a latch with a separate locking bolt. Recently pushing the handle down to open the door caused the latch to stay open. I dissembled and tried the handle and lock out of the door. Pressing the handle down again caused the latch to stick in the open position. I bought a new door mechanism, but the same has happened again, depressing the handle causes the latch to stay open. You can manually release it, but clearly that won't work when the mechanism is back in the door. What is causing the latch to not release again when the handle goes back up please?
