Bitumen removal to lay liquid dpm

by Woodlea » Fri Jan 15, 2021 7:36 pm

We are currently renovating our house and need to put down a self-levelling latex screed on the floor. We also needed a liquid dpm and our builder put down the wrong sort - a type that is supposed to go under a concrete screed not under latex - and so it needs to come off before we can put down the right stuff (aforementioned builder has now quit the job!). We need advice please on the easiest and quickest way to remove the bitumen ? TIA.

Hi woodlea
Assuming a bituminous based DPM has been laid on a concrete base it will be very difficult to remove it. Suggest you apply another coat of the DPM, blind it with dry sand while it is still wet, let it dry thoroughly and then use a self-levelling compound which does not include latex.
Regards S
