Asbestos garage roof contamination after waterproofing

by Paulniceone » Thu Jan 28, 2021 6:39 am

Ok im really worried and annoyed. We have a leaky asbestos garage roof, along with our neighbour. I noticed they had a builder overlaying new plastic roofing on their garage to wateroroof it, and without thinking properly I asked if they could do the same to ours.

I now realise this was a mistake. In the process the builder scrapped the moss off the asbestos roof, causing holes in areas which left asbestos cement chunks on our garage floor. Next they drilled the new sheets into the asbestos, causing flakes and debris to fall inside our garage, falling onto all the stuff in the garage.

Now I don't know what to do. I guess I need to clean the inside and contents of the garage, and potentially just get the whole roof replaced?

Hi paulniceone
That is a nightmare, you could clean up yourself but do wear a suitable mask (Covid ones are not good enough) and seal debris in bags. You could send a sample of the debris to get it checked. Or you could pay for a specialist firm to deal with the whole issue.

Polyurea coating is an effective method for waterproofing and will definitely help you with your garage.
