Is it time to call a sparky to resolve high electric bills?

by Rileyroo » Wed Feb 17, 2021 8:55 pm

I have Been getting high electric bills for the last 18 months .
Gone from using a average of 500 kWh per month to using a average 900 kWh per month .
Also from what I have been told 500kwh per month is still a very high usage .

Watched plenty of videos & guides on what to check if electrical bills rises dramatically .
Done the checks I could and still can not find a explanation.

Would getting a electrical test be recommended ? & possibly get me the answers I require ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

It might do.
Have you tried the basics?
1) Watch how fast your meter dial moves / changes its display
2) Make a note of what it is reading and time of day.
3) Take another reading 24 hours later, work out how much you have used in the 24 hours.
Switch EVERYTHING off at its switch or unplug it, then see what your meter says, it should be saying nothing is being used, if it is not then you have not switched everything off.

It is a process of elimination, even if you found an electrician they could not pull out a magic wand, wave it and say it is xyz, it's just a process of seeing what draws the most current and what is on the longest, and should these be on?
