Our patio was built in around 1970 and from what is can tell has never been maintained. It has dropped in places and I planned to lift the slabs and relay them on sand as they are at the moment. Having lifted the corner few slabs in faced with a large void around the edges. This has rather stumped my original plans. Does anyone have any ideas? The patio is about 1.2m above the lawn so there is potentially quite a big gap. I thought about filling it with Mot type 1 but I'm not sure if that will work.

It looks like the edging bricks are laid on the concrete slab and that there are foundations directly under the edge bricks. If this is the case you could back fill with a dryish weak concrete mix which will be easier than mot to feed in under the sla
