New loft light - quick check of wiring diagram please!

by giljonath » Mon May 17, 2021 12:45 pm

Hi all,
I'm looking to install 2 light in my loft using quickwire boxes.

Looking at my sketch, is this correct for the new loft light i.e.
- use quickwire splitter box on existing upstairs lights
- use a quickwire switch and load box, with wire to the new loft switch and loft light?
If I put a second light in, can I use another quickwire splitter box as shown in black?
If so, the new loft switch will control both loft lights wont it?
Thanks alot!

It might work, it might not, your drawing is not very clear, and to be sure, a wiring diagram of what you intend to do would be better.

I would try not to use splitters, cable joiners & junction boxes etc, your just introducing areas for faults.
Your sketch is ok, however I would connect the new feed to the switch from the light fitting, then run a cable to the first light then a cable to the second.
I was always taught to have all connections in fittings or switches.
If there is a fault you can find it a lot easier.
