Efflorescence - is it possible to seal or cover up?

by SparkyRick » Sun May 23, 2021 2:39 pm

Hi guys,

I've got a bit of a problem with efflorescence in my basement, particularly with the crystals coming out from the tile grout. I know it represents a deeper problem that needs to be addressed concerning water and damp but was wondering if anyone has any tips for concealing the salt crystals or stopping them from forming on the tile grout. I'm considering painting the tiled wall with tile paint. Has anyone tried this? Thanks

Hi sparkyrick
Painting over the tiles will create an even worse problem - the paint will be blown off in the grout areas. Accept salts coming through until you have a permanent damp proofing solution.
Regards S
