Hi All
I hope to build an elevated decking area in my back garden, I'm currently at the planning stage and so far have designed two frames. My question is, out of the two designs what is stronger, what is better, and what one would you opt for? If you wouldn't opt for either then why?
I've uploaded pics of:
-What I'm starting with, which is the house and a raised patio.
-Design 1 - This design has double beams running long ways (attached to posts), joists running in-between the beams and then noggins.
-Design 2 - This design removes the double beams. The joist are attached straight to the posts, then there's noggins in between. I may add more noggins if required.
-Rough dimensions.
The raised patio has a double bricked wall around the perimeter as shown. Inside the walls (under the slabs) is just soil (crap). I plan to only take up the slabs where posts will go.
The beams/joists will be attached to the posts using coach screws or bolts.
The joist are 400mm centres.
The frames are both attached to the house using ledger boards.
I'm edging towards design 2. I think it'll be quicker, easier, and cheaper to do. I think design 1 is more rigid but I also think design 2 has more than enough strength. I'm interested to see what you think, any feedback is welcomed.
Thanks!
