Stuck radiator drain valve when flushing old radiators

by SKenno » Wed Dec 22, 2021 1:05 pm

Hi,
I'm flushing our old radiators out, however the ground floor radiators have the all-in-one lockshield and drain plugs attached that fit a standard brass drain key, like the air vent. Problem is two of them are locked up tight enough that I've bent keys trying to loosen them. The other one is fine.

As there's a solid ground floor all the rads are on their own loops from the 1st floor down and back up

So I guess the question is, is there a tool tougher than standard brass key that might do the job?
Or, should I really be bothered and is flushing the system tthrough the one I can enough. Just concerned that with the loops down i'll I just end up with two rads full of gunk.

Hi skenno,
If you are using a clock winder type key, try using one of the t-bar type and grip it in pliers.
