Replace taps being washing machine-help please Help, advice and problem solutions on all aspects of home appliances from washing machines to TV's

I am new here, useless at DIY but whilst fitting a new kitchen unit I realise the taps are 3 cm to big to fit my new units... can I replace with smaller taps?? I think I only need one for the washer now so can I cap the other??? any help/info is appreciated thanks
