Washing machine replacement - do I need to block off hot water supply pipe

by shalebing » Sat Mar 05, 2022 2:48 pm

I am having a new washing machine delivered next week to replace my old one which has both a hot and cold supply and I am assuming the new machine will require a cold supply only thereby making the hot feed redundant. Both supply pipes are fitted with on/off valves but I wanted to know if it is sufficient to simply turn off the tap on the hot valve or do I need to blank it off with something as well. Maybe I'm unduly concerned but I'd hate for it to spring a leak in the future.

Hi shalebing,
Suggest you fit a 3/4” BSP cap just in case the lever gets knocked or more likely, the ball valve leaks.

Many thanks for your reply. That puts my mind at rest so I will get one of these blanking plugs as a precaution.
