What is this faceplate behind the dishwasher? Ask questions and find answers to many subjects relating to electrics and electrical work

Hello all,
While redecorating our house I found an odd faceplate behind the dishwasher with what appears to be an earth wire poking out of it. Does anyone know what is this? I tried to google it with no luck and I'd prefer to get rid of it if it doesn't serve its purpose anymore (the dishwasher and washing machine sockets nearby are grounded anyway).

That is a conduit box lid. (Behind it, you will find a conduit box) If you undo the two screws the round lid will hang on the earth wire, you can then poke the earth wire back in the box, and put the lid back on.
It was there so the earth wire could be connected onto a water pipe that has long since gone.
