Soggy wall - can we plaster?

by WetWallAgghh » Sat Jun 11, 2022 8:38 am

Hi folks,
We have removed plaster from an upstairs bedroom wall after it was showing multiple damp patches.
We think this was likely from a leak around the chimney, which we think has now been fixed (although was probably leaking for a long time).
We have had multiple roofers out to replace cracked tiles, redo the flashing around the chimney, repoint the stack etc. We've also has multiple people in the loft above and no-one can find any traces of damp / evidence of a leak now.
However, the wall doesn't appear to be drying out. The bit which is particularly damp (top middle) has now had plaster removed for around 6 months and is still reading around 20 on a damp meter.
My husband has treated it with Dryzone and is suggesting we use Dryzone adhesive with regular plaster to cover the wall.
Has anyone tried this - would you recommend it? Or do we need to leave it to dry out for longer?
Thanks

Hi wetwallagghh,
The darker area in the middle top part of the wall looks damp. If it is damp this will leach through any new plaster. If there is a chimney abutting thie centre of this wall it is most likely to be rain penetrating through the chimney.
